Ahmad BradshawEAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Ah, the Washington Redskins. Pure, sweet December tonic for the playoff hopes of the division-rival New York Giants. The NFL schedule doesn't offer contending teams too many chances to take a breath this time of year, but the Giants sure got one Sunday. The Redskins rolled into the Meadowlands and rolled right over, and the Giants gladly accepted a 31-7 gift that allowed them to keep pace with the Eagles atop the NFC East.

Now, the Giants' goal must be to survive until the next Redskins game. They finish the regular season at Washington, a place they'll surely find as welcoming as home. After all, if this is the way Washington played when its playoff hopes were still technically alive, the Skins should be in full-on shutdown mode by Week 17. The trick for the Giants is the next three games -- at Minnesota, home to the Eagles and at Green Bay. That gauntlet will determine their playoff chances, and they're fortunate that Week 13 provided such an opportunity to feel good about themselves.

"It's time," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. "It's December in the NFL, and it's time. If you're trying to get into position, it's right now. To keep pace, to get that eighth win, to get to 2-2 in the division -- all of those things were important."
