The
Detroit Lions started hosting Thanksgiving football games in 1934 and have played a home game on that day every season since 1945. But in recent years, there's been a movement at times to take Thanksgiving games away from Detroit and give them to cities with better football teams -- mostly so we can all actually enjoy a good game while we stuff our faces and avoid our relatives.
The
NFL's position has generally been that the game will stay in Detroit as long as the fans show support for it. So there's good news for those who want to see Detroit keep the tradition alive: The
Lions announced that they've already sold out this year's Thanksgiving game.
