Saints vs. Bengals: Drew Brees Leads Another Cold-Blooded Comeback in Cincy

Drew BreesThe New Orleans Saints nearly did it again. They nearly lost to one of the worst teams in the NFL. The Cincinnati Bengals (2-10), who had lost eight in a row but held a chance to get some redemption, blew it in a 34-30 loss Sunday.

The Saints trailed 30-27 and had fourth-and-inches at the Cincinnati 7 with 31 seconds to play. Quarterback Drew Brees came to the line, but had no intention of going for it. He barked a hard count that drew defensive tackle Pat Sims offsides.

New Orleans got a first down with the penalty. They scored a touchdown on the next play and moved to 9-3 on the season to stay on the heels of the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South.

Some thoughts on the game:

o. When Brees connected with rookie tight end Jimmy Graham on a 52-yard pass in the second quarter it moved him past Archie Manning for most passing yards by a Saints quarterback. Brees passed Manning in his fifth season in New Orleans. Manning played 11 seasons in New Orleans. Obviously, the Saints play two more regular season games and more playoff games. But the Brees offense is all about the pass that's why he can break the record in half the time. The pass set up a 24-yard field goal by Garrett Hartley that gave the Saints a 13-6 lead at halftime.
