The Charlotte Observer reported Wednesday that Carolina linebacker Jon Beason was fined $10,000 for his hit on Saints' wide receiver Marques Colston in last Sunday's 34-3 loss to the Saints.

Beason told the paper he would appeal.

"It was a clean hit," he said.

Beason drew a flag for unnecessary roughness because he hit a defenseless player in the head. The NFL has a get-tough policy on hits targeted above the shoulder pads and Beason is the latest player to get fined.

Running back DeAngelo Williams remains sidelined with a sprained foot. The Panthers (1-7) leading rusher was injured near the end of the win over San Francisco Oct. 24 and has not even practiced.

The team's other feature running back, Jonathan Stewart, suffered a concussion in the loss to the Saints and it is not certain if he will be cleared to play Sunday at Tampa Bay.
