NFL Talkboard: Week ten
Welcome to week 11 on the NFL Talkboard. Pick your winners from these six games and submit your choices below the line. This week's live blog will be Bengals @ Ravens ? 1pm EST / 6pm GMT. Steve Busfield and myself will then be back on Tuesday with five things we learned from the weekend's games. Also, if you're on Twitter, follow our new service @GdnUSsports for all the latest US sports news, views, and live coverage. We also have a brand new Facebook page.
But now it's time for the Pick Six. Deferential bows, please, in the directions of dadric, Pomme, simon57, Rustigjongens and Valentinik ? all of whom got six right in week ten. And perhaps a spot of unhappy grumbling behind the back of Herecomestreble, who got five out of six and continues to dominate the overall standings. I shall post those shortly.
Buffalo Bills @ Miami Dolphins
How quickly fortunes turn. Two weeks ago the Dolphins were winless, while Buffalo were taking plaudits as potential winners of the AFC East. The Bills were so impressed by Ryan Fitzpatrick's fast start that they gave him franchise quarterback money, yet since signing his new $59m deal, the 'Amish rifle' has looked more like a peashooter. But as much as this Miami team has improved, are they really ready to win three games on the bounce?
Bills to win
Cincinnati Bengals @ Baltimore Ravens
If last week's game against Pittsburgh was supposed to be the first real test of this Cincinnati team, then it was hardly an unmitigated failure. Although they lost, the Bengals were in the game right to the end, while Andy Dalton's touchdown pass whilst being hit by James Harrison was one of the highlights of the weekend. The Ravens, meanwhile, were finding a way to lose to one of the worst teams in the league in Seattle. SI.com's Peter King also notes that their quarterback, Joe Flacco, has also thrown nine interceptions and just two touchdowns in his last four games against the Bengals. But the Ravens are going to want this one bad after what happened last week.
Ravens to win
Jacksonville Jaguars @ Cleveland Browns
At time of writing, the over/under betting line for this game is set at a total of just 34.5 points ? the lowest anywhere this weekend. I might still take the under.
Browns to win
Seattle Seahawks @ St Louis Rams
While we're on the subject of games that may not be pretty ? To be fair both of these teams are coming off a win, though the Seahawks did benefit from some spectacularly inept Baltimore special teams play, and the Rams' victory was over Cleveland. It is also true that both have been decimated by injuries, though the Seahawks hope both Sidney Rice and Doug Baldwin may return this week. I actually think Seattle are slightly the better team ? but when there's this little in it, I'll go with the home field.
Rams to win
San Diego Chargers @ Chicago Bears
Jay Cutler's previous with Philip Rivers adds a little extra spice to this one, the former having been famously goaded by the latter back when he was still just a rookie in Denver. Back then Rivers was flexing his muscles as the big man on the AFC West campus, but after missing the play-offs last year, his Chargers are at risk of blowing another season with four consecutive defeats since their bye. The Bears, by contrast, are on the up. Cutler will relish this.
Bears to win
Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants
Last call for the Dream Team. The Eagles most likely have to win out at this point to have any hope of making the postseason, and that may be precisely the reason why some people will back them ? the belief that a team this talented cannot limp out this quietly overriding the evidence of all those defeats, of Michael Vick's broken ribs, and of a coach in Andy Reid who looks to be operating on borrowed time. The bookies do favour New York, but only by four points. I actually think the gap between these two teams is bigger than that ...
Giants to win
