After getting dominated on both sides of the ball for most of the first half of Super Bowl XLVI, the New England Patriots used a record-tying drive to take a 10-9 lead at halftime.
Another stellar Steve Weatherford punt pinned Tom Brady and New England back at their own 4-yard line with 4:03 left in the half and the Patriots trailing 9-3. Sixteen plays later, the Patriots were in the end zone. The 96-yard drive tied a Super Bowl record.

Brady was perfect on the drive, going 10-for-10 for 86 yards. At the start of the second half, Brady threw five consecutive completions, giving him 16 straight overall. That broke a Super Bowl record held by Brady's idol, Joe Montana.
New England didn't appear to be in a hurry during the drive, almost as if the team was content to leave the offense out and keep the defense on the sideline. Though the team had three timeouts, the Pats didn't call a timeout after a running play with 1:01 left in the half. By the time the next play went off, 23 seconds had burned off the clock.

It was of little consequence. New England's receivers were able to break New York tackles to get out of bounds and stop the clock and Brady's poise in the pocket on the third-down touchdown pass gave the Pats a 10-9 lead.
Before the last drive, the Giants were outgaining New England 185-76.
