Rex Ryan left ?unflattering? voicemails for brother Rob after Jets? opening win

Well, we now know that the trash talk between Jason Hill and Darrelle Revis wasn't the only smack emanating from the New York Jets' team facility this week. As Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram tells us, Jets coach Rex Ryan left some voicemails for brother Rob, the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator, after the Jets beat the Cowboys, 27-24, in the 2011 season's first Sunday night matchup.

"He left some really unflattering messages, but it's to be expected," Rob Ryan said. "It's coming back to him one of these days.

"There is no compassion there at all. No."

Rob wouldn't detail what was said, but given Rex's historical ability to turn the air blue, we can only imagine.

"I don't even want to say," Rob confirmed. "There was no PG thing about [the message]. I think it was R or worse."

As Rob said, this was to be expected. Men that come from the family of one Buddy Ryan are not going to be known for their tact and good behavior, and it's just as sure that had the tables been turned, Rob would have left some sort of voicemail bomb for his brother.

So, how was Rob getting over his first loss as the Cowboys' new defensive mastermind? Dallas played well on defense ? especially in the pass rush ? and held up well despite serious depth issues in their secondary. But when you get beaten by your brother and then have to withstand his ridicule, the 24-hour rule in the NFL (Get over it by Tuesday") doesn't really apply.

"Honestly or coachspeak? Honestly, probably Thursday," Rob said. "But we're ready to go again. We have a nice plan here, and we're ready to get after these guys," referring to the San Francisco 49ers, who the Cowboys will face on Sunday.

Things won't be any easier for Rob Ryan when it comes to his injured secondary ? he'll be without Orlando Scandrick (high ankle sprain) and Terence Newman (groin strain), but at least he's had time to prepare for it this time.

"During the game, it was tough [being without his top cornerbacks]," Rob said. "We had a game plan. When everybody went down, we got limited. Now, with a whole week of practice, we're good to go. We've got a lot of calls up. We'll be fine."

No word whether 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh will be leaving Rob any nasty voicemails if the 49ers should put the Cowboys in an 0-2 hole, but Harbaugh's probably saving his invective for his own family faceoff ? he's hoping to lay down the smack after beating brother John, the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, on Thanksgiving night.
