Classic YouTube | Rugby World Cup memories, roll-up man and an NFL sting in the tail

This week's round-up also features Sean Kelly winning the Vuelta and the heartwarming tale of FC Twente and Stranraer

1) The Rugby World Cup kicks off on Friday, so here's a grab bag of highlights from down the years, starting with the 2003 opening ceremony, complete with an appearance by John Eales. New Zealand are the hosts this time around and they've been involved in some of the tournament's most memorable games, including this Jonah Lomu-inspired demolition of England in 1995. And from the sublime to the smashing: Jonny's drop of glory; and a hit from hell.

2) Check. Out. This. Hero, single-handedly making deadline day worth living through.

3) Going into this weekend, Britain has never had a Vuelta a Espaa winner. Ireland has, mind.

4) The NFL is back from Thursday night. Here is surely the best opening-week match in memory, Kansas City 40-39 Cleveland from 2002, which has a delicious sting in the tail. And if that doesn't get your juices flowing, this disgustingly good one-handed grab from Larry Fitzgerald in pre-season should.

5) We have recently covered infamous footballer adverts, but this beauty starring Hugo Sanchez alongside a motley crew of Mos Eisley Cantina cast-offs somehow slipped through the net.

6) Amid all the international action last weekend, one match was hugely overshadowed: Libya's 1-0 win over Mozambique in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. Rabie el-Lafi scored the only goal in Cairo, while a new independence anthem was played before the match, along with new kit and flag.

Our favourites from last week's blog

1) The best 15-minute film you'll watch all week: the heartwarming tale about FC Twente's unlikely relationship with Scottish Third Division side Stranraer.

2) "Akabusi ? has made it!" The great David Coleman calls home Britain's 4x400m relay world championships win 20 years ago. Plus a rather lovely accompanying documentary. And sticking with athletics, this is probably not the best men's hurdler ever.

3) And everyone loves a 35-yard backheeled lob of an own goal. Unless you're David de Gea in goal.

4) The memorable track invasion on the final night of greyhound racing at Walthamstow in 2008.

5) It's hard being an American football referee. Officiating an Under-14 match.

6) Slip and slides are a childish joy. So it was inevitable that some people were going to take it to the extreme.
