Bill Parcells: Mark Sanchez isn?t yet ready to lead the Jets

Bill Parcells: Mark Sanchez isn?t yet ready to lead the JetsBill Parcells, always handy with a metaphor, was on ESPN Radio Tuesday talking about the Jets and Mark Sanchez. This one was about automobiles, though, not groceries, and the subject in question was New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.

"Before you can drive a Ford, you have to be able to drive a Cadillac. If they get everything good around him, I think it will go well. Right now, I don't think he can take the team completely on his shoulders."

I've never heard that one before. The Jets are the Ford here, the rickety, not-so-sturdily built monster that's difficult to control unless you've got a lot of driving experience. The Cadillac is some theoretical good team which gives the driver a smooth ride, excellent handling, leather seats, and a quadraphonic Blaupunkt. Easy to drive. Anyone can do it.

So, according to Parcells, Mark Sanchez isn't ready yet to be a Ford Truck man. That's not all he dri-eeeves. He has some boundaries. He will compromise.

It's a little bit of a criticism of Sanchez, but I don't think Parcells is saying anything controversial here. Rex Ryan might see Sanchez as an elite quarterback, but he's about the only one. Sanchez's quarterback rating on the year is 80.4 -- tucked right in between Tarvaris Jackson and Donovan McNabb. It's way closer to the league's worst than the league's best.

And at 2-3, it would be hard for anyone to argue that the Jets are more of a Ford right now than a Cadillac. Kia wouldn't be an all-together inappropriate comparison.
