Albert Haynesworth Reportedly Could Draw Interest From Lions

Albert HaynesworthThe Detroit Lions would seem to be just fine at defensive tackle right now. Ndamukong Suh is expected to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, and his fellow tackle Corey Williams had a good first season in Detroit after being acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.

And yet, there's talk in Detroit that the Lions could be looking to make a very big splash at DT by acquiring Albert Haynesworth, the disgruntled Redskin who almost certainly won't be back in Washington in 2011.

Tom Kowalski of MLive.com writes that Lions head coach Jim Schwartz and defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham love Haynesworth, and there's a chance the Lions will make a run at him.

If you're a Lions fan, there's a lot to like about that idea: Haynesworth was the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year while playing for Schwartz when both were in Tennessee. Haynesworth also has become so toxic in Washington that he could probably be had for a late-round draft pick.

And although Haynesworth signed one of the biggest contracts in NFL history less than two years ago, he's actually pretty cheap going forward, because the Redskins have already paid Haynesworth most of the money he's owed in the form of signing and roster bonuses.
