Trent Baalke will take over as 49ers GM, the team announced Tuesday night.It's a promotion for Baalke, who was San Francisco's vice president of player personnel last year. He's been rising the ranks of the organization for the last six years, beginning as a regional scout.
"I have had the benefit of watching Trent closely in the recent months and have been very impressed with his knowledge and leadership," team president Jed York said in a statement.
The 49ers were without a GM since Scot McLoughlan left in March. Baalke ran the team's 2010 draft, which served the team well this year. First-round offensive linemen Anthony Davis and Mike Iupati were starters from Week 1 and while it took some time for them to find their form, Davis and Iupati were bright spots by the end of the season.
