For Jets, It's the Thrill of Victory and the Ecstasy of the Feet

INDIANAPOLIS - Three seconds left and a chip-shot field goal to go. How perfect that the Jets' season, and Rex Ryan's credibility were coming down to ...

A foot.

Ryan, the Jets' coach/clown has defined his team by his antics, from a sideline hoodlum tripping a player in the game to Ryan's own foot fetish and his wife's embarrassing videos.

Surely, Ryan was thinking about kissing each of kicker Nick Folk's toes before that kick for luck. Or at least cuddling.

Well, that was a cheap shot, wasn't it? Yes, and Ryan will have to get used to it. The thing is, Folk made that field goal, and the Jets eliminated Peyton Manning and the Colts from the first round of the playoffs Saturday. Jets 17, Colts 16.

And here is something you cannot deny: the point of a leader is to get followers to be as productive as they can possibly be, even adding up to more than the sum of their parts.

The Jets and their buffoon of a coach are moving on to the next round. It is the ultimate validation for Ryan.

Maybe we have to take another look at Ryan. Is his act distracting the team and making him a joke in the locker room, the only place where it is 100 percent mandatory that he have respect? Or is he taking the pressure off his players by keeping the focus on himself?

I'm going to go with yes.
