Jets vs. Steelers: Preview & Prediction

In the second of two rematches on the weekend, this game features two of the most physical defenses in the NFL with similar approaches. And the fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers have been familiar with Rex Ryan's system from his days as defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens should help them in their preparation.

However, Ryan should benefit some from having former Pittsburgh wide receiver Santonio Holmes on his roster because Holmes has a unique understanding of the defensive personnel, especially in the secondary. New York won the regular-season meeting at Heinz Field, 22-17, and is already 2-0 on the road in these playoffs, so there is no intimidation factor at play to that end.

What this game is going to come down to is postseason experience and discipline, both of which seem to be in favor of the Steelers. The core of this team was together two years ago in Tampa when Pittsburgh held off Arizona to win Super Bowl XLIII, and head coach Mike Tomlin has established a strong sense of discipline and accountability that was evident last week against Baltimore when the Steelers erased a 14-point halftime deficit to eliminate the Ravens behind another strong passing performance by Ben Roethlisberger.
