Eagles, Giants Clearly Had NFC East's Best Offensive Lines of 2010 Season

The offensive lines went through a season of change in NFC East in 2010.

Washington six-time Pro Bowl left tackle Chris Samuels, the division's most decorated lineman of the past decade, retired in March because of a spinal condition. So did legendary Redskins line coach Joe Bugel, who developed Russ Grimm into a Hall of Fame guard while giving his linemen the "Hogs nickname" and helping Joe Gibbs win two Super Bowls.

Flozell Adams, who had deftly manned the critical left tackle spot in Dallas for the previous 12 seasons, departed as a free agent for Pittsburgh.

Philadelphia lost center Jamaal Jackson to a season-ending torn triceps in its opener while the New York Giants played most of the season without sparkplug center Shaun O'Hara and four weeks without left tackle David Diehl.

Still, the Giants, Eagles and Cowboys finished 5-6-7 in the league in yards. Philadelphia scored the third-most points with Dallas and New York tied for seventh. Only Washington, which implemented a new offense under coach Mike Shanahan, coordinator Kyle Shanahan and line coach Chris Foerster and changed every starter up front except center Casey Rabach, wasn't among the NFL's elite attacks.

So let's take a more detailed look at how the division's lines performed in 2010 and what to look for in the trenches in 2011.

EAGLES -- No other team in the league ranked in the top 10 in total yards, rushing yards, passing yards, scoring and fewest sacks allowed per pass. That fact alone is worthy of kudos for line coach Juan Castillo, who has been in Philadelphia for 16 years, four more than coach Andy Reid.
