Well, I thought it was just me.Uh-uh.
When it comes to saying what needs to be said about Brett Favre (as opposed to all of this No. 4-related bashing over the airways, through cyberspace and in print during the last three years), there also is Ken Herock, among the architects in the 1970s of the prolific Oakland Raiders teams of Daryle Lamonica and Ken Stabler.
"I've really had enough of people writing and saying on TV: 'Brett Favre, give it up.' OK, then, why should he give it up?" said Herock, 69, failing to hide his disgust over the phone from his Atlanta home.
In addition to the Raiders, Herock spent more than three decades as an NFL player personnel guy with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Atlanta Falcons and the Green Bay Packers, and along the way, he drafted the likes of Steve Young, Doug Williams ...
And Favre.
Speaking of which, Herock agrees with me: Stop ripping the best quarterback of this generation. Second, those calling Favre a "waffler" have made this a self-fulfilling prophecy or aren't paying attention.
Mostly, even though Favre says he finally is retiring his 41-year-old body after finishing his 20th NFL season with a flawed Minnesota Vikings team, he should be allowed to change his mind in the next few months and return to the Vikings or somebody else.
That is, if he wants to return.
He should return.
