The 1-12 Panthers are playing a significant game, believe it or not. First, this should be the last home game in the reign of John Fox as head coach. He does not have a contract after Feb. 1 and no one expects him to get one.To his credit, Fox has not unloaded -- yet -- on owner Jerry Richardson, who is mostly responsible for the poor season because of cost-cutting.
The other significant part of this game is that Carolina is in the running for the No. 1 pick in the draft, which should be a quarterback. Winning ruins that plan, though the Panthers could end up with Arkansas' Ryan Mallett instead of Stanford's Andrew Luck.
