Kevin CurtisRonnie Brown has vivid memories of what type of player his newest teammate, wide receiver Kevin Curtis, was from 2004-07. What he had no idea of is what Curtis went through to get back into an NFL locker room.

"He was fast when I used to watch him," Brown said. "And he's a tough little guy, from what I've seen, and I think he's somebody who can help our offense."

After being asked to draw comparisons between Curtis and his former teammate, New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker, Brown's eyes opened wide when told about how Curtis was diagnosed with testicular cancer over the summer.

For Curtis, he did his homework, realized the seriousness of the condition and began focusing on what needed to be done in order to conquer it and to get back into football shape. It was just before his best season with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2007, when he caught 77 passes for 1,110 yards and six touchdowns, that he first was made aware of an abnormality in his testicular region. A sports hernia in 2008 and a knee injury in 2009 then derailed his next seasons -- but those issues were minor compared to what he was about to deal with.
