If the Denver Broncos truly want a "Broncos Man" as their next head coach, a lesser-publicized candidate may have a chance. That candidate: Rick Dennison.
And while Dennison's chances haven't received the attention of John Fox, Perry Fewell and Dirk Koetter, Broncos Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway has said he wants the coach to understand the culture of the organization and its relationship with fans.
Dennison certainly does.
"I've known the Broncos forever," Jeff Legwold of The Denver Post quoted Dennison saying.
Dennison, a Colorado State alum, played linebacker nine seasons for the Broncos and coached the Broncos on Mike Shanahan's staff for 14 seasons.
He coached under Josh McDaniels' in 2009 before spending this past season as the offensive coordinator in Houston.
Dennison interviewed for the Broncos' head coaching position Tuesday.
"If it is (an advantage), that's great, I'll use that to the best of my abilities," Dennison said. "I'm orange and blue all the way through. I just work in Houston now."
Legwold wrote that Dennison received "high marks" after interviewing with Broncos officials for the head coaching job in 2009.
