On a third-down play from the Panthers 30-yard line Sunday, Roddy White crossed over the middle and caught a Matt Ryan pass for a gain of 4 yards. The reception was White's 112th of the season, which a new Atlanta franchise record for catches in a single season.White finished with six catches in the Falcons' win over Carolina to bring his record total to 115. He entered the game with 109 catches on the season.
White broke a 16-year old record set by Terance Mathis in 1994 -- Mathis caught 111 passes for 1,342 yards and 11 touchdowns and was a member of the NFC Pro Bowl team that season.
Since talk of breaking the longstanding record surfaced over the last weeks, White has been extremely soft spoken about setting a new mark. White, a Pro Bowl receiver himself this season, would rather talk about helping the Falcons by catching passes and providing support on their impending playoff run.
