It wasn't exactly the perfect Christmas present since he didn't quite rally his team to victory, but after nearly two full seasons of standing on the sideline, Stephen McGee of Burnet, Tex. and Texas A&M finally got a chance to quarterback the Dallas Cowboys in a regular season game on Saturday night."I (had) never thrown a pass to (Pro Bowl tight end) Jason Witten," McGee said. "I (had) never really thrown a pass to (Pro Bowl receiver) Miles Austin, except in pregame. I don't have very much timing with those guys. I just tried to trust my reads and just make plays and give our guys a chance, be smart with the ball, and not put us in a hole."
McGee not only dug Dallas out of a 11-point hole into a 26-24 lead over Arizona with just seconds to go, but he will have the opportunity to play from start to finish in this Sunday's season finale. If Jon Kitna, who has been starting for the injured Tony Romo since Week 7, can't recover from the strained left oblique muscle he suffered in the second quarter when sandwiched by the Cardinals' Calais Campbell and O'Brien Schofield, the starting job is McGee's.
