Chuck Bresnahan has rejoined the Raiders for his second stint as a defensive assistant. The team announced on its website Tuesday that Bresnahan would be joining the staff of new Raiders coach Hue Jackson.
Though the Raiders did not specify his position in their statement, other than to say he would be a defensive coach, it's believed he'll take over as the team's defensive coordinator. The Raiders said last month John Marshall would not return as defensive coordinator.
A Raiders team spokesman said for now the club does not want to elaborate on Bresnhan's position with the team other than to say as the statement notes that he's back with the team as a defensive coach.
During his previous six-year stay with the Raiders, Bresnahan coached the team's defensive backs before becoming defensive coordinator from 2000-2003. The Raiders won three consecutive AFC West titles and reached the Super Bowl while Bresnahan ran the defense.
"Chuck brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and we welcome him back," Jackson said in a statement. "I worked with him in Cincinnati and he is fiery, a motivator and a teacher."
Bresnahan spent the past two years with the Florida Tuskers of the UFL, including serving as the team's defensive coordinator in 2010. He spent the previous four seasons with Cincinnati, including three years as the defensive coordinator for the Bengals.
