New coordinator Wade Phillips and coach Gary Kubiak may be a while from finalizing the Houston Texans' defensive coaching staff, but at least one spot is determined.

That's defensive line coach Bill Kollar.

Kollar, the Texans' line coach the last two seasons, was retained in that position when Kubiak fired four defensive assistants last week, including coordinator Frank Bush.

Phillips, hired last week as the team's coordinator, said Monday Kollar will remain the line coach.

"He's definitely a part of this staff," Phillips said while meeting with the Houston media Monday.

Phillips said that was true despite Kollar having coached a 4-3 scheme the last two seasons. Phillips said he plans to utilize a 3-4 defense with Houston.

"I've had a lot of coaches that I've come in with that have only coached 4-3," Phillips said. "In fact, the whole group in San Diego had only coached 4-3 before I got there. A good football coach is like a good player, you can fit them in."
