Jaguars QB Coach David Shula Interviews for Same Job in Carolina

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterbacks coach Mike Shula could be heading to Carolina.

Shula, the Jaguars' quarterbacks coach the past four seasons, interviewed for the same position with Carolina recently, Darin Gantt of The Rock Hill (S.C.) Herald reported.

As Tania Ganguli of The Florida Times-Union noted, the interview was curious because the Jaguars denied Dirk Koetter permission to interview with the St. Louis Rams for their offensive coordinator position.

But Ganguli noted that because Shula has been coaching under one-year contracts throughout his time with Jacksonville, he is not currently under contract and therefore doesn't need permission to interview with the Panthers.

Ganguli reported that Shula can do that because he is still being paid on a $1.55 million a year contract by Alabama.

"Contract-wise, he's all set through January of 2012," Ganguli wrote.
