Andy Reid Extends His Reign as the King of Coaches in NFC East

Back in August when I picked Dallas to successfully defend its NFC East title, I gave the Cowboys the edge in almost every category over their trio of division rivals. However, there was one major exception: coaching. And that proved to be a whopper of a difference-maker. I had Philadelphia's Andy Reid on top, which is where the Eagles finished, and Dallas' Wade Phillips on the bottom. Phillips, of course, didn't even finish. He was fired at mid-season with Dallas owning a stunning 1-7 record.

With that preface, I begin my look at how the NFC East stacked up in 2010 and how it looks going into 2011 with the coaches.

EAGLES -- Reid doesn't figure to be the NFL Coach of the Year after posting the same 10-6 record he did in 2009. That honor will go probably to one of the league's young turnaround kings of 2010: Kansas City's Todd Haley or Tampa Bay's Raheem Morris. But make no mistake, Reid did a great job this season, the best in the NFC East.

Reid, who has the final say on personnel in Philadelphia, gambled and won with his trade of 10-year starting quarterback Donovan McNabb to division rival Washington. And the Eagles got lucky when McNabb's replacement, Kevin Kolb, got concussed in the opener, putting their big gamble of 2009, Michael Vick, at quarterback. Vick was stupendous and Reid looked very smart.
