by John HickeyIn a move that had seemed likely for some time now, Tom Gamble received a promotion to the San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Friday.The job formerly belonged to Trent Baalke, who has since moved up to become the club's general manager.
"We are very fortunate to have a guy with the wide range of experience that Tom possesses," Baalke said in a statement. "He's worked with some of the best in the business throughout his career, and has been around football his entire life. As good as he is at what he does professionally, he's an even better person and a great fit for the 49ers.''
Gamble's job will be to oversee the college and pro personnel departments. He has served as the club's director of pro personnel since 2005.
