Franco HarrisNEW YORK -- The Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee announced its 26 semifinalists for the Class of 2011 in late November. Among the first-time nominees are Marshall Faulk, Jerome Bettis, Deion Sanders and Curtis Martin.

One familiar name on the list of semifinalists is former Raiders punter Ray Guy, who is regarded by many as the best punter the game has seen. Guy has been on the ballot since 1994, yet has not been enshrined in the hallowed halls in Canton, Ohio, a snub that many feel is a travesty.

Most of his supporters believe that the voting committee has overlooked Guy because of his position. NFL fans, however, have been more forgiving, voicing their support in a number of ways.

One way in which fans have gotten involved is through the Van Heusen Fan's Choice ballot, which allows them the chance to say who they think should be among those voted into the Hall of Fame. In each of the last two years, Ray Guy has finished among the top vote-getters in the Fan's Choice ballots. The idea is to give a unique perspective to the voting process, one in which many believe currently, in its official state, is flawed.
