Bill Belichick and Rex Ryan

Something gives Monday night in New England. And it won't be because Bill Belichick drew Rex Ryan's name in the holiday AFC East Coaches Gift Exchange.

There's just too much going on, too much at stake, what with Ryan facing Belichick and Tom Brady facing Mark Sanchez and the team that's unbeatable at home playing the team that doesn't lose on the road.

Monday night's game between the New York Jets and New England is that big. It is so big the venerable Boston Globe said it's "bigger" than the Super Bowl, which might be an accurate statement (not because the writer, the venerable Dan Shaughnessy, received his diploma from the College of the Holy Cross, a fine New England educational institution). It's accurate because these teams won't meet in the Super Bowl. They might not even play in the AFC championship game, depending on seedings and results and that kind of stuff.
