DAVIE, Fla. -- As of Thursday morning, the list of Miami Dolphins players on Injured Reserve was twice as long as the practice squad roster. The addition of starting right tackle Vernon Carey to the IR on Tuesday further emphasized the team's misfortune as he was the second starter in less than a week to land there, joining wide receiver Brian Hartline.Carey is the third offensive lineman to see his season come to an end due to injury and he had not missed a start in 87 games going back to his second year in 2005 until last Sunday at the New York Jets. What had to be more frustrating for the former University of Miami standout was the fact that the knee that had been bothering him throughout the offseason, training camp and the first 12 games was not the one that did him in.
"This is my good knee," Carey said. "It was bothering me a little bit all the way back to the Green Bay game (Oct. 17) but I aggravated it in the Browns game (Dec. 5) and that inflamed it a little more right before the half. It is what it is and Coach (Tony Sparano) made the decision and they think me being on IR and putting me on the shelf for the rest of the season's the best thing and I agree with them."
