Clinton PortisASHBURN, Va. -- Clinton Portis, the running back who powered the Washington Redskins to their only playoff appearances in the past decade, will miss the final six games of the season for third time in five years.

But Portis, who will be 30 before the start of the 2011 season, said Thursday that he has no intention of walking away from football, not after being re-energized by the arrival in Washington of Mike Shanahan, his coach during his tremendous first two years in Denver.

"Of course, I want to come back and play," Portis said in his first non-paid media session since he suffered a season-ending torn abdominal muscle on Nov. 21 at Tennessee, which was repaired on Monday along with a previously torn groin that had sidelined him for the previous five games.

"The previous two seasons, losing my lust for the game not really knowing what I wanted to do compared to ... having a system that you believe in ... getting the right teammates around, seeing the right guys fighting for the right purpose, all of a sudden you miss it again.
