The domination of the NFC East is taking another blow. The division which won five Super Bowls from 1990-95 and has produced at least two playoff teams in all but four of the past 20 seasons, has captured just one Super Bowl and three NFC titles dating to 1996 and could well have just one postseason qualifier this year. And now a year after six players from the division were among the 22 NFC players voted to start in the Pro Bowl, only four are leading the fan balloting which ends on Dec. 20. This from a division which boasts four of the nation's top nine markets: New York (No. 1), Philadelphia (No. 4), Dallas (No. 5) and Washington (No. 9).
What's more, two of the four have been sidelined for weeks with injuries. Giants center Shaun O'Hara hasn't played since Week 7 because of a sprained foot while Redskins strong safety LaRon Landry has been out since Nov. 15 with a tender Achilles. Neither is likely to return Sunday.
The other current starters from the NFC East are safety Antrel Rolle, who's in his first year with the Giants, and Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, who's in his first year as their starter and his second with the team. Vick, who was suspended from the NFL in 2007 and 2008 while serving a prison sentence on dogfighting charges, had received a league-high 729,838 votes as of Wednesday morning. The fan vote counts one-third as do those of the players and coaches as to who gets selected to play in Hawaii on Jan. 30.
