With the Ravens-Steelers and the Jets-Patriots both facing off this week, there has been a lot of discussion about what is the best current rivalry in the NFL. And whether it's a Northeast corridor bias or something else, a lot of people out there are making the argument for Jets-Patriots -- but, at least on paper, that's not the case.
Deciding which rivalry is the greatest is an eye-of-the-beholder thing, and we all bring our biases in to play. If you're a Falcons' fan, the Falcons-Saints rivalry probably ranks as the biggest in the NFL. The same thing goes for Bears-Packers if you live in Chicago.
But we'll try to reduce as much fan bias as we can by only looking at facts. And when you break it down, it's quite clear that the Jets-Patriots rivalry doesn't match Steelers-Ravens in closeness of games, in implications of the wins and losses, or in almost any other tangible aspect.
