Not to worry, America. Clinton Portis is back to wearing the hat of his locally-appointed Major League Baseball team.
You might remember that on Thursday Portis gained some attention for wearing a Philadelphia Phillies hat while talking to reporters in the locker room at Redskins Park. This was especially egregious to some fans because the 'Skins are playing the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.
But it was all confusion in the name of fashion. Portis, you see, picked the red "P" hat because it matched his hoodie. According to teammate Brian Orakpo, Portis probably didn't even realize the hat was from Philadelphia in the first place.
The defensive end talked to Matt Terl of the Redskins blog about the hat:
"He was just shocked because -- you know, the way we wear hats, we're not really wearing it symbolizing what's on the hat. It's more of a color thing. He wanted to wear red. It's just different colors you wear; that's why he was caught off guard. He probably didn't even realize it was a Phillies hat, knowing him."
On Friday, Portis wore a new red hat, sent to him special by the Washington Nationals. And then he quoted Kanye West. Because why wouldn't he? (Via DC Sports Bog)
"[Portis began by singing the chorus to West's new single, "Runaway," which we can't print here.] I love the Nationals. "As soon as they tried to make it a big story about my Phillies cap, I got a Nationals [hat] -- Washington. I'm a Washington Redskin."
But Kanye West is from Chicago! Does this mean Portis wanted the Bears to win when they played the Redskins three weeks ago??!
