Packers safety Nick Collins is the latest member of the NFL's $50,000 fine club.As I noted during Sunday's game, Collins went head first into the head of Cowboys receiver Roy Williams, committing exactly the kind of flagrant, helmet-to-helmet hit that the NFL has warned every player will not be tolerated. As a result, NFL Network is reporting, Collins has been fined $50,000.
That fine is both severe and swift (the league usually waits a few days before handing down fines), but if anything Collins is lucky the penalty wasn't even more serious. Collins could have easily been suspended if the NFL was looking to make an example of someone for violating the rules against illegal hits.
