Steve Smith Injury Update: Out vs. Cowboys With Torn Pectoral Muscle

As expected, New York Pro Bowl receiver Steve Smith won't play Sunday against Dallas after partially tearing a pectoral muscle during Thursday's practice. Smith, who set a Giants record with 107 catches in 2009, could well miss next week's more critical game at Philadelphia and perhaps remain sidelined even longer.

"They say a limited amount of time, but not necessarily right away or this week or next week," said coach Tom Com Coughlin, whose 6-2 Giants lead the 5-3 Eagles by a game in the NFC East race. "I won't know until he starts rehabbing. He hasn't had much swelling. Some discomfort."

Center Shaun O'Hara is in even more discomfort after being informed by medical personnel that the Lisfranc sprain in his right foot could keep him out not only for a second straight game on Sunday but the next six weeks as well. That would leave O'Hara, who has already missed four games this year, on the sidelines until Week 16.

"Initially I was told that it could be anywhere from two to eight weeks," O'Hara said. "These injuries are different for everybody. That's the tough thing and the frustrating thing. I'm trying to stay positive. I know that I will be back out there. I just don't know when. I continue to prepare like I'm going to play, just to keep yourself mentally sharp. Every week feels like a month these days, so I'm just trying to do all I can to get back out there and contribute."
