Bills vs. Chiefs: Buffalo Denied First Victory in Final Seconds of OT

For the second consecutive week, the Buffalo Bills had to finish a game in overtime, in dramatic fashion on the road. The Bills had their chance of winning their first game of the season when kicker Rian Lindell nailed a 53-yard field goal, but the score was taken away due to a timeout called by Chiefs' coach Todd Haley.

Lindell missed his second attempt and Chiefs' kicker Ryan Succop followed suit when he hooked his 39-yard kick at the last moment with 3:39 left. After a three-and-out by the Chiefs defense, they regained the ball with 1:13 left on the clock and Succop finally sealed the deal for the Chiefs keeping the Bills winless as time expired in overtime, 13-10.

Both the Bills and Chiefs have shown some explosiveness on offense this season. The Bills, for the most part, dished out points as they matched their opponents, while the Chiefs have been high flying all season as they came into Sunday's contest ranked 8th in scoring (25 points per game) and first in rushing at 176.5.

This game was all about defense, but the Chiefs managed to come away with a touchdown late in the second quarter on a 1-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Matt Cassel to wide receiver Dwayne Bowe with a 1:31 left. The solid defensive output by both teams for a majority of the game suddenly became the game of coaches' challenges.

Late in the fourth quarter with under four minutes left, the Bills fumbled the ball on second down at the Chiefs 20. After a challenge by Bills coach Chan Gailey, the replay showed that Chiefs' linebacker Mike Vrabel's elbow was out of bounds which made it Bills ball. In the same drive on a touchdown play by the Bills to tie the game, Haley challenged the call, but the ruling wasn't overturned.
