DAVIE, Fla. -- In an effort to shore up their special teams and their secondary the Miami Dolphins signed cornerback Evan Oglesby to the active roster Wednesday and waived defensive end Robert Rose. The 5-foot-11, 182-pound Oglesby suffered an ankle injury in the middle of training camp inside the practice bubble and was placed on the Reserve/Injured list before being given an injury settlement less than a week later. According to league rules, Miami could not re-sign him until after the first seven weeks of the regular season.
With rookie cornerback Nolan Carroll (ankle) and rookie safety Reshad Jones (undisclosed injury) not practicing Wednesday morning, Oglesby's return comes at an opportune time for him. Last season he played in one game and was inactive three times. This is his sixth season in the NFL after being a four-year starter in college at the University of North Alabama. He began his career as an undrafted free agent with the Buffalo Bills and he has appeared in 37 games with the Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys.
