Former third-round draft pick of the Buffalo Bills, linebacker Chris Ellis, and rookie defensive end from Oregon, Sunny Harris, signed with the Steelers on Tuesday evening. Ellis will join the practice squad and Harris was signed to the active roster, while defensive tackle Al Woods was signed off the Steelers' practice squad by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday to be a part of their active roster.

Harris was signed to replace defensive end Aaron Smith because he was placed on the injured reserve Tuesday afternoon with a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder. Harris was drafted by the Steelers as a sixth-round pick, but was cut. He went to sign with the Panthers, played in two contests before being waived, then later was added to their practice squad.

After a failed attempt by the Steelers to make Harris a part of their practice squad, he stayed with the Panthers for more money. But Harris had a change of heart when the Steelers offered him a spot on the active roster and re-joined them Tuesday evening.

The 6-3 Harris, who has a vertical leap of 25.5 inches and has ran a 5.05 in the 40, played behind former Oregon standouts Haloti Ngata of the Baltimore Ravens and Igor Olshansky of the Dallas Cowboys.
